TESDA Competition Showcases Youth Competence, World-Class Skills

Delegates from the seven provinces participated in the 2013 TESDA Central Luzon Regional Skills Competition (CL-RSC) held from December 16-18, 2013 at different venues in Pampanga, Bulacan, and Bataan.

The four-day CL-RSC was formally opened on Dec. 16 by TESDA-III Regional Director Teodoro Gatchalian at the Robinsons Starmills in the City of San Fernando.

“This competition showcases the world-class skills and competence of our technical vocational trainees in 23 competition areas across several industries such as auto land transport, information technology, hotel and tourism, construction, health and wellness, and metals and engineering,” RD Gatchalian said.

Aside from the medals and cash prizes, the winners shall for the honors of representing Central Luzon in the Philippine National Skills Competition and possibly in the ASEAN and World Skills Competitions.

“Skills competition is one of TESDA’s most effective social marketing and promotion strategies that elevate the Filipinos’ knowledge and awareness of technical vocational education as a viable career path,” RD Gatchalian added.

He further said that TESDA’s lead partners in organizing the CL-RSC include the Central Luzon Technical Vocational Institutions Federation or TVI-Central Association, local government units, and the industries.

“We intend to continue holding skills competitions to showcase our youth’s skills and competence; advocate technical vocational education and the blue collar occupation,” he said.

Aside from skills competition, the provincial delegates shall also compete in the Regional Socio-Cultural Competition. The events include singing (solo and duet), modern dance (group), battle of the bands and the Mr. and Ms. TVET-Central Luzon.

Secretary Joel Villanueva will be the guest of honor and speaker during the awarding ceremony that will be held in the Bren Guiao Convention Center on Dec. 19.
