The Provincial Training Center-Calumpit collaborated with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the Municipality of Calumpit and the Kapatirang Damayan ng Maykapansanan sa Kalumpit (KaDaMay Ka) Cooperative in providing two separate livelihood activities for its members at Barangay San Jose and Balungao in Calumpit, Bulacan.
A total of 34 KaDaMay Ka members were able to learn basic skills in meat processing and alcohol making that could empower them as they pursue livelihood activities in their homes.
At least 15 DAPs participated in making tocino, longganisa and hamonado on March while 19 others learned how to make alcohol under the guidance of Ms. Rolina Dela Cruz, a member of the Community-based Trainers Association in Bulacan (CBTAB), a long-time active partner of TESDA in the province.
Melissa Torres-Sangil, President of KaDaMay Ka thanked the PESO and PTC-Calumpit for the sustained assistance being extended to their group.
Said activity is part of PTC-Calumpit’s contributions to the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC), which endeavors to highlight the gains achieved for women and girls, assess actions towards gender equality and look forward to steps that must be taken to ensure progress in empowering women.
People with disabilities need skills to engage in livelihood activities. But they start with a number of disadvantages. They often lack access to basic education, making them unqualified to join skills training courses. These disadvantages frequently result in a lack of skills, as well as low confidence, expectations and achievement.
