TESDA-CL now ISO 9001-2008 certified!

The promise has been delivered.

After two long years of struggling to prepare for one of the most prestigious certification in the field of customer service, TESDA and its three pilots regions has finally earned its International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001:2008 seal of approval last February 10, 2012 at the TESDA Complex in Taguig City, making it the only education agency and among the government certifying agencies to be granted the elite status.

With the presence of no less than President Benigno S. Aquino III, TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva proudly received the ISO certificates from Jen Wen Chia, general manager of the TUV-SUD PSB Philippines, Inc., which audited the Agency’s services.

The pilot regions who also received their own ISO certifications are TESDA-III, ably represented by Regional Director Ted Gatchalian, Cordillera Administrative Region, and TESDA-VIII. Equally elated are the provincial directors of the pilot provinces in Central Luzon who received their coveted certifications; PDs Cenon Querubin of Bulacan, Luz Victoria Amponin of Nueva Ecija, and Belinda Labutong of Tarlac.

“Living up to the challenge of making technical vocational education relevant and accessible especially to the poor sectors of our society was not an easy task given the limited resources and the cleaning-up that we have to do when we assumed office. But the hard work and efficiency of the TESDA family braved all these, and now we are reaping the fruits with this ISO certification,” Secretary Villanueva said.

He explained that the ISO certification should further strengthen the agency’s commitment to make better its services to the 1.4 million Filipinos enrolled in various technical education and skills development (TESD) courses to help ease the problem of unemployment in the country. “This makes TESDA at par with other international educational institutions providing the same skills development services,” he continued.

The road to ISO certification was paved with a long, arduous, and painstaking process that TESDA-III diligently hurdled based on the time tested principle of plan-do-check-act. The changes soon become evident in the physical and operational facets of the TESDA units in Central Luzon, especially in the mindset of the staff towards the delivery of high quality service to achieve customer satisfaction.

ISO 9001 is an internationally recognized quality management standard which specifies Quality Management System requirements focused on an organization’s ability to meet and improve customer satisfaction and quality requirements.

In January 2010, TESDA enrolled its two major programs for certification namely; Unified TVET Program Registration and Accreditation System (UTPRAS), and Competency Assessment and Certification Program. These are systems and processes that ensure integrity and quality of training delivery and training outputs involving all its courses. (with excerpts from tesda.gov.ph)
